Why the Rassias Method:

Developed for training Peace Corps volunteers in the early 1960s and adapted to college level instruction in 1967, the Rassias Method is a combination of dramatic techniques, rhythmic drills, and energetic reinforcement strategies that make learning an engaging experience, while eliminating inhibitions. The Rassias Method is widely used in colleges and schools throughout the country and abroad.

Our goal is to make you feel comfortable and natural with the language immediately in an error tolerant atmosphere. Each day of ALPs increases your oral proficiency and features practical applications of the language. You will be in the company of motivated people for whom language is culture and culture is language.

What to expect during Spanish for Healthcare:

As you see from the schedule, you will have Lead Classes taught by those who are true masters of their trade, and Reinforcement Sessions (drills) conducted by well trained language enthusiasts.

The role of the Lead Teacher (LT) is to deliver and help you understand the material and lessons of the day. Lead Teachers are college-level faculty trained in the Rassias Method®. LTs each have their own special connection to the language that they bring to the classroom. We have tenured professors, private school teachers, dramaturges, musicians, college deans, and literature specialists in our eclectic ranks. Together, our LTs provide a varied and interesting perspective on the language and culture that they teach.

The role of the Assistant Teacher (AT) is to take that material and break it down in order for participants to use it immediately, both in repetition of scenarios for rhythm and pronunciation purposes and in manipulating grammatical structures while hearing the sentences flow.

Assistant Teachers (ATs) come from Dartmouth College and beyond. We have native speakers, graduate students, undergraduates, and general language enthusiasts. Our ATs, through their divergent backgrounds, share a passion for language, for teaching, and for bringing language to life.

Highly skilled and thoroughly trained, our ATs reinforce material taught in the Lead Class through rapid-fire language exercises. Drills are conducted with a choreographed delivery that replicates the rhythm of the language, building confidence in the use of the language in a nonthreatening, noncompetitive environment.

Meals are taken with your language class, in Spanish, at the Class of 1953 Commons
