A Typical Day During ALPs 2017

"Prepare yourself to laugh, cry, dance, rant, sing, scream, learn,
and be truly touched by an experience many describe as
'ten of the most intense and rewarding days of their lives."

Arrival and Departure

Our programs begin with participants arriving between 4:00-6:00 p.m. on the first day to register and join one of our professors for a placement interview. Classes conclude on the morning of the final day, followed by a graduation ceremony and farewell luncheon ending by approximately 2:00 p.m. The Rassias Center staff can help you with suggestions regarding transportation to and from Hanover.

"Total immersion, all day, every day. Instructors are very well
chosen for competence and personality. Changes of pace
throughout the day kept us working and thinking all the time."

A Typical Day

JohnDrill You start every morning in the vibrant classroom of one of our experienced and rigorously trained Master Teachers. In these three-a-day classes, you and your colleagues become the center of all activity. You will experience the structural, grammatical, and cultural elements of the language at a lightning pace in a system, which will constantly engage you both emotionally and intellectually.

"Our professor had a profound knowledge of linguistics,
a brilliant command of the language, and the
exuberant spirit of the people."

Mirte The pace speeds up yet another notch in the famous Rassias Method "drill classes." These five-a-day, small, intensive group reinforcement sessions will make you speak – and at ALPs speaking is the key to learning. Our assistant teachers will amaze you with their energy as you find yourself responding an average of 65 times per drill class. Through constant use, the day's lessons will become automatic.

"Drills demand every ounce of concentration and challenge
you to continue to grow. I was so stimulated by what I was
learning, I had to force myself to stop studying."

Evening Activities

Evening activities are dedicated to cultural events. Your evenings will be spent singing, dancing, enjoying poetry readings, watching films, diving deeper into a new culture, or talking late into the night (in the target language, of course!)

"ALPs takes a wide array of people, all of whom are
successful in their own areas of expertise or stages
in life, and crafts an experience that allows the group
to acquire language capability without tension and frustration
which might otherwise exist in an intensive environment."
